3 reasons why on-premise is better for device management

Many IT-tasks are moving into the cloud. But some are best kept at home, on-premise. Device Management and deployment of new computers is one of them, where on-premise is better suited than cloud. The 3 main reasons why are:

1. Speed/Performance

With an on-premise device management solution, you have ensured that the speed of distribution and performance is optimal, when you need to quickly deploy a security patch. One of the most common complaints in forums and support on cloud based solutions are, that it sometimes takes a whole day to distribute a package to all devices.

2. Limitations in the web-interface

It can be an advantage in a cloud based solution, that the admin interface is available in a web interface. But it usually result in only having access to limited functionality, because the front-end has not been developed fully and there is a discrepancy to the OS and cloud server engine. An on-premise solution, can support all OS functions directly, as Windows allows you to, and is being developed integrated with the engine, which gives the IT administrator and staff many more features and quick actions. This means more efficient operation and less time spent on trivial tasks.

3. Security

If you have your own deployment and device management server on-premise, you have full control over security (and sensitive data). You are optimally secured against man-in-the.middle attacks, which are a bigger risk with cloud based solutions, if some malicious hackers succeeds in redirecting traffic from your employees devices.

This is why many IT-manager now decides to change to a solid and fast on-premise tool, like our EasyInstall.
